Hereford & Worcester County Fencing Union Schools Competition

Thank you for attending this year’s competition. This was the thirteenth time this competition has been held, and I hope you will agree that it has been a success.

We held 16 separate events at two weapons with 124 entries from 35 Schools involving 465 fights. 50 medals were awarded. This year we presented 17 trophies.

Our entry was down on last year’s record high of 159. The standard of fencing remained high, between them the competitors have won 3 national titles that I am aware of.

I would like to thank all those who lent equipment to allow others to fence. Without your generosity junior events would be tiny by comparison.

I would like to extend my very special thanks to those who gave freely of their time to referee, Helen Cormack, Ellie Cormack, Adrian Mason, Peter Whittle, Raph Aldis, Jennie Douglas, Matthew Thompson, Nick Weston, Richard Burns, Stephen Edgar, Richard Morris, Louisa Millar, Gabby Kettle, Tom Fullwood and Simon Holburn not to mention the fencers who also refereed. Without you this event would have been a very different affair. My thanks also go to Peter Whittle the armourer, my special thanks got to Matthew Edgar for his work with the computer and Karen Edgar for all her organisational work.

I must also thank Mrs Bowen-Jones, Mr Mullins and the Headmaster for their continued support for the sport of fencing at Bromsgrove School.
